It's sort of gone the way of my 'Sopranos' project, 3 characters done and not much since.
I'll get back on it, some day.

Craft Guerrilla and other bits

So yesterday I was tagged in a picture of Craft Guerrilla's new shop in Wood Street Market!
It looks so lovely I can't wait to go and see it, they're selling all 3 of the greeting card designs as well as some of my Boston Terrier A4 prints and my new pigeon totes so go have a look if you're nearby.

This morning I received this beautiful printed and tipped collar from Ivory Jar, a company founded by two ladies from my Illustration course at Westminster.
Their accessories are beaut and I think they've even got some stuff being sold by ASOS soon.

But you can't stay mad as I've just received my 'Hates Gonna Hate' tees and totes.

Not to blow my own trumpet (it's all thanks to 'Get A Grip' printing anyway) but they looks pretty lovely.

Sorry I've been so quiet, Christmas was a bit mental.
Mostly because I work in retail but I also had a lot of print orders which was so lovely so thank you to everyone who's been buying from my shop.

I only have 6 pigeon prints left now which I can't quite believe.

Anyway my friend asked me about a year ago to draw him this and I finally did it.
Thought I'd upload it just to prove I'm still drawing every so often.

Living Etc Magazine

So I'm a little bit chuffed, my 'Haters Gonna Hate' pigeon has it's very own spot in the January issue of Living Etc.
My very first magazine feature thanks to the A4 print being sold by the lovely Lizzie Evans at the Smug shop in Angel.

I only got 50 printed and they're selling fast which I wasn't expecting to be honest.
So thank you so so much to everyone who's been buying from me, pigeon prints and all.
You are all making me feel super special and I really appreciate it!!

Seeing as my prints are nearly gone and limited edition I think I'll be looking into getting him printed onto t-shirts in the new year :)

Feeling a little bit SMUG

So on Saturday I finally got a chance to go to the Pop Up Print Shop upstairs at Smug.

Such a lovely space and a ridiculous amount of amazing work on show.

Took a couple of pictures but unfortunately didn't have time to get everyones work, definitely going back though.

The shop is running until the end of January so make sure you go take a look, perfect Christmas present material all over the place!

Just got back from the exhibition, was nice to see them all up (and to see mine)

However there were two girls who didn't seem to want to relinquish their prime spot in the middle of the wall (can't really blame them, there's so much to look at) so I couldn't really get to any of the zines....will have to revisit when it's quiet!

P.S. Spot my zines! You don't get a prize.. just a feeling of satisfaction for being so ruddy clever.

I recently opted to take part in a mini exhibition at Tatty Devine's Brick Lane shop.

I donated two of my zines to be featured in Barbara Ryan's mini zine exhibition/library.

The private view is this Wednesday 6pm-9pm (3rd August) people are welcome to come have a look, sit and read and even zine swap.

Afterwards the zines are all going to be archived at the British Women's Library.

I'm a bit excited to see everyone's stuff.

Went to Hackney Wick today to see where my work was being sold, there's always so much on around that area but I don't live round there so I never hear about it.

Lots of food stalls, mini exhibitions and crafts stalls. Lovely stuff!

Went to visit the Lucky Dip stall twice and both times someone was buying something of mine.. always nice :)

The Sopranos

So I was pretty late to jump on the Sopranos band wagon.

I tried to start watching it a year or so ago but couldn't get into it for for ages.

But when I finally tried again, I absolutely stormed through every series.

Absolutely amazing and anyone who hasn't seen it needs to do so!
Anyway, like many people I know, after coming to the end of the show I was left with a bit of an empty feeling of "What now??" - seriously, lot's of people have said this to me.

So I decided to set myself the challenge of drawing as many of the characters as possible and there are a lot.

I've been pretty terrible to be honest and have drawn one every like.. 3 months.. but I'm trying to get back on track so here are some of the ones I've worked on so far.

Not sure exactly what I'll do with them all in the end but I'm sue I'll think of something

I ordered them in A4 but there's an extra inch around them which I wasn't told would be there

I trimmed this one super successfully but wondering if it's a bit risky to try and trim my rather expensive and professionally printed..prints.

Took the show down today, the course going up after us are super lucky that we did it so quickly (we went in after fine art and ended up mopping the floor with loo paper for a good hour or so).

I thought I'd feel a lot sadder than I do but maybe it hasn't all sunk in yet.

I think the thing that makes me saddest is that, as most people know, I wasn't amazingly happy at Westminster so I didn't go in very much which means I didn't get to know half the people in my class.

Prepping for the degree show meant getting to know more people and seeing all their amazing work. So yeah that's the one thing I regret, I think if you're working in an open studio space it's a shame not to socialise and make the most of having so many different people/opinions around you.

So that and gradually beginning to draw a lot better than I did when I started are the two things I'm taking away from the course.

ANYWAY I thought I'd take some time to feature some work from the degree show. I really can't feature everyone but there are a lot of people from my course that I've never featured/mentioned so I thought I'd put some of my nice photographs to good use, click names for their blogs:

P.S. I would LOVE to add that the shop run by myself and Alex made well over £300 in total. About £90 of this was made by postcards sales (postcards that our tutor told us were pointless to sell as "no one buys postcards") so hurrah to us, we were so pleased with the shop and how it turned out and thanks to everyone who helped invigilate it and so on x

So today I got a call saying that basically all my professionally printed business cards are gone.

I just looked in my bag and I have about.. 3 left so I've printed and (badly) cut my own..

I just hope some bigshot doesn't come to the show, see my shoddy cards and spit on it....

It's fine though, I'm pretty flattered. Even if no one took them to get in contact at least people like my drawings on them!
Ordered more lovely rounded corner ones from moo.com but they won't be here in time for the show.

Anyway I'll be in tomorrow from about 12 til the end invigilating at the shop. Please pop in and say hi. Everyone's done an amazing job so now we just need as many people as possible to come and have a look!

Private view

Private view was tonight and I think it was pretty successful.

Yesterday (late) afternoon the head of illustration helped me put up my one A0 print then turned to me and said 'I think you should get another A0 print' which I stupidly agreed to.
This meant I had a pretty stressful day today and picked up my print from Hoxton at about 4.15pm and didn't hang it until about 5pm...the show opened at 6pm..
But it was busy and everyone was merry. Me and Alex were in charge of the shop which was super busy so I didn't really get to do too much mingling and that.

It is worrying how terrifying I found it when people didn't get me the correct change and I had to work out how much to give them back.

So yes it was a bit hectic and I didn't take my slr so I will take some proper pictures on Saturday before I invigilate (yes I am invigilating at the shop from 12.15 til 6 so come and say hello!)

Also wasn't too lovely to come home from my degree show and find Amelia bloody Gregory has cut it down in one sentence/tweet. But oh well some people have nothing better to do than unnecessarily criticise..

Sort of hasn't sunken in that this is pretty much it yet. I'm not sad to leave uni because this year has been a bit of a joke tutor wise and stuff and I generally didn't ever really get in to the whole 'uni experience' but these last few weeks have been awesome in terms of people helping each other out. Setting up for shows like this really bring out people's best/worst sides for sure.

What a long blog post, I will probably reread this tomorrow when I finally emerge from my bed and delete it out of embarrassment.

Guys, the degree show private view is tomorrow night.
The gallery isn't the nicest so I was worried about the show looking terrible if I'm honest but oh my goodness, it's looking amazing.
Actually in a mental race to get another A0 print done for tomorrow which I'll have to pick up from Hoxton then make my way to Baker Street. Stress!

It's been weeks of hard work and money and tears and stress (and I'm definitely getting super ill) so please come along it will be awesome!

The other day I cam across a box of t-shirts and totes that all had slight faults. For example, I didn't press hard enough when printing them so the print is a little faded oor I was clumsy and dropped a splodge of ink where there shouldn't be one.

So I'm already feeling a bit lost after handing in my last ever uni project today.

Anyway I brought my old projects home and found my 'Colour In Katie' book and decided I'll turn it into - the ever popular - 'zine' form.
Just black and white laser prints onto coloured paper stapled together.
Hoping to print on two other colours if I can scrounge the cash together (I'm so poor)
Will assemble it tomorrow but just thought I'd give you all a peek.

Definitely had a lot of fun with this project so I'd be quite happy to share it with everyone..in zine form..what? Very tired.. Night x

Hey everyone, currently gathering everything together for the market tomorrow
Me and Sadaf will be selling a tonne of vintage/non vintage clothes, shoes and other bits and bobs and I'll be selling my bags and t-shirts and what not
There will be a load of stores selling food/clothes and god knows what else
The sun is supposed to be out too so come and say hello!

Finally got my cloth tape for my book
I am pretty pleased with it though taking a nice photo is difficult when there is no non creased white paper bigger than A3 anywhere in the house.

Went and took my photos at the shop today:

My window vinyls didn't really turn out how I wanted but these were sort of an afterthought in my project

I thought they'd look better translucent but I wish I'd just got them printed onto white vinyl - I thought this would detract from the shop window display inside though Office currently have a MASSIVE block colour vinyl on their window. Probably should have research it a bit more.

The vinyls look better when you're looking out from the shop which sort of defeats the point.

Really pleased with the shelf panel vinyls.
Cutting them out was pretty sad after all the effort and time spent getting it printed as one big thing.

I think they're effective and bright and go well with the shops general 'feel'

It's a shame I couldn't afford to print loads and put them all up

I've had some really positive feedback so thanks so much to everyone it means a lot!! :) x

Turns out it was my PDF file that was discoloured and the lovely people at 'Applied Impressions' even reprinted it for free

Going to my old work to put the vinyl up and take photos
It's such a shame I have to cut this massive thing into bits so it fits in the shelf panels.

Vinyl Palava

So the other day I ordered my vinyl banner and window clings
Went to get them yesterday 'errr your window clings aren't ready, come back in the morning'

Came back this morning and they'd printed my window clings - these stick to glass because they're statically charged so you can easily peel them off again - onto adhesive vinyl - these are just sticky.

They had rolled up my vinyl already and seeing as they didn't charge me for the window clings-now-vinyls I was perfectly happy to part with my £50

Got home and unrolled my vinyl to see that about a third of the way down the colour on the printer ran out or something so two thirds of my vinyl are all yellow and weird.

I am too scared to go down there and complain face to face so I have emailed them and will now sit here until they email me back.

I am also trying to assess how easy it would be to peel the vinyls off the shop window.. not too tricky I don't think...

Everything is always such a ruddy mission!

Got some portfolio pages printed at Mail Boxes Etc today (they are pretty good and cheap)
and discovered after all of my stresses and worries that there is a vinyl printing shop right down the road from me so those will be ready tomorrow! Just hope they look good.

Currently prepping some of my handmade merch for the Hackney Wick Flea Market that's happening the Saturday after next (Saturday 30th April)

Please come and say hi/buy my things.

A while back a very good friend of mine asked me to design a logo for their maths society
And I did it and now they've got their jumpers printed.

It's nothing spectacular but it's nice to see something you've done all printed up and being useful

I've finished making my book!
I still need to order my cloth tape for the spine.. still trying to bring my self to pay £6.50 postage for it tbh.
But yes. There are only about 14 of the original 44 shoes but I just thought it would be a bit repetitive and I didn't have enough interesting stories.
Considering I'm a ridiculously messy creature when it comes to making things I'm pretty pleased with it

My mum seems to like buying me plants at the moment
The orchid used to have like 5 flowers and now there's only one..but apparently that's not my fault

These were originally just some sketchbook pages of some of my other collections
I was advised to expand the shop display idea and apply it to other items to show I'm not a 'one trick pony'

I like the idea of seeing the nail varnish one on the back panel of a make up counter.

Also, I just came across this blog whilst looking for illustrators who focus on collections.

shoe box illustrations

Feeling pretty on top of things at the moment for once.
I've designed my vinyl and 'clings' and sent them to the printers for a quote.
I'm about 60% of the way to finishing my little book

And I just ordered a portfolio for assessment

So this was another idea I had for putting my work into context
Annoyingly I don't tend to keep my shoe boxes so I can't try it out with any of the others
It's a nice idea but when it came to thinking about printing onto card and making up the boxes it just seemed a bit too complicated for my tiny brain.

I think Office should definitely hire me..

Going to have a look round and see if I can find anymore shoe boxes.

P.S. I've also signed up to be in the Hackney Wick Flea Market at the end of the month
Going to take a couple of my tote bags/t-shirt/prints as well as a tonne of vintage clothes

starting to remember why i fell out of love with film camera

when you get a couple of shit pictures you were looking forward to seeing you wish you'd taken your digital camera out
though i still love it when i get some good ones
no drawing to speak of at the moment, it's all about putting the shoes together for printing and stuff

a lot of these were taken at 'lassco' the (extremely expensive) 'junk yard' which isn't really a junk yard. hard to explain.

if you can get to Battersea it's worth going to have a look at all the weird/interesting/beautiful things though.

So sorry my blog is so dry at the moment
It appears to be so dry that one of my followers dried up and crumbled off. Big sigh.
I can't even show you the shoes I'm drawing until I get into uni to use the HUGE scanner

I have a favour to ask of you
I have been advised to expand my shoe project from my collection to other peoples shoe collections

I would therefore be super grateful to anyone who could send me photos of your shoes

It can be a whole collection or a couple of favourites - any contribution will help

You can probably guess that I'm after side on photos of the outside of the shoe like I have been doing all along

Might even send a free tote to my favourite selection or maybe to whoever sends me the most

They are more to draw from so the res doesn't have to be super high, just so long as the pictures are clear

Also I'm only looking for ladies shoes I'm afraid so no mens shoes!
